Hello, I'm Max, I'm a 3,5 months old puppy
and my lovely and proud owners Esther and Niek
took me away from the asylum.

I was born around july 1st but we're not exactly sure
becouse i'm a foundling.
I'm changing my teeth now so that gives us an indication
I'm about 14 weeks old because that's the age you start changing,
so...I'm born on the 1st of july.

I'm a breeding of:

danish dog(fawn)

old english mastiff

and I'm very sweet and like to play a lot.

I really love my toys and I play with them all day,
but if I see a shoe I rather take that to play with,
but I have to make sure that Niek and Esther don't see me,
because I will be punnished and have to go to my kennel.

I'm a real cuddler and I like to give a lot of kisses
and I bite a lot but I do that very gently
in the hands and ears of Niek and Esther.

That's because I have to change my teeth,
they are itching and when I bite the itching goes away.

At this time I have lost 3 teeth and I weigh about 40 lbs.
I know that because we have been to a animalvet to get my injection
against puppy disease and I have to come back in three weeks.

Wel, a puppy's life isn't always easy, I have to learn a lot
but I am housetrained already and I can sit nicely and give my paw.
So that is pretty good.

I'm the lucky'est dog on earth,
I get to sleep with my masters on there bed
and that is very very nice and soft,
sometimes I crawl in between them
and that's my favourite position
and than I'm going to sleep and snore a lot.

We know now that my breed is a Tosa-Inu.

This breed can have the age about,
9 - 11 years but sometimes even 14 years old.

Here some different pictures about Tosa's
from small to large.

The Tosa Inu

Character

Tosa's are known for their bravery,
composure and courage.
Their character reflects many attributes
of the Japanese mentality in a fascinating way.
They openly show their pride, they appearing distant sometimes.
To unfairness they often react in their own arrogant way.
Despite they are opinionated and very self confident,
they love members of their family and
show great loyalty towards them.
Therefore Tosa's are not suitable for the schutzdienst.
They realize special situations too fast,
so that it's almost impossible to motivate them to do exercises.
However, an exame as how to accompany people is to be recommended,
especially since those sportive dogs paas it easily.
Whereas Tosa's are open and kind to their family members and family people,
they are usually distant, but never agressiv to strangers.
They let them pet them, but they will not become their friends.
Tosa's show their affection by taking the initiative
and asking for gently touches.
Doing so, they will always remember that person,
but they will only obey their master or mistress.
It's usually no problem, if there are other animals in the household.
Tosa's accept everything wich belongs to their environment.
But it's easyer to live with an Tosa without any other dog.
An axeption is the relationship between male dogs and bitches.
An intense socialization is inevitable to avoid it.
Tosa's should be talked to with a soft voice.
However it has to be in a consistent and authoritarian way.
There is no use in yelling at Tosa's or beating them.
They don't easily forgive such a treatment and punish you with ignorance and contempt.
Because of their sensitivity they notice quickly,
when you are mad at them or when they made a mistake.
According to the Japanese saying
"The most silent are the most bravehearted"
Tosa's are pleasantly calm dogs, wich behave very inconspiciously.
They hardly bark, but are nevertheless reiable protectors.
They are not easily to be deprived of their composure,
and they love their daily routine.
Should you like bike riding or jogging,
your Tosa will be delighted to join you
( please not before he's 15 months old ).
If you can sometimes just go for a short distance,
the Tosa will not at once feel unfullfilled and unsatisfied.
Tosa's are suitable to be kept in a big enough appartment,
as well as in a house with a garden.
They are not suitable to be exclusively kept in kennels,
because their sensitive psyche would become severely damaged.
Tosa's belong to a family.
It doesn't matter, of how many people your family consists,
Tosa's do everything with you and you can take them with you
everywhere you go.
Your Tosa will thank you with love, faith
and unconditional devtion as long as he lives.

How to keep a Tosa.

Actually, there is a big difference between the keeping of a Tosa
and the keeping of any other big sized, dominant dog breed.
It's advantageous, if you already have experience in dog keeping.
That doesn't mean that keepers without experience are bad keepers.
Much more important is your motivation, your knowledge and the
amount of the time you spend with your dog.
We invest a lot of time and love in keeping our Tosa.
We are proud of it.
We have a very strong connection with our dog.

The following test shall indicate, if you're the right person to keep a Tosa.
You are, if you can answerr all questions with "yes":

Time for the dog at least 3 hours a day
Enough space and the possibility for the dog to move, walk and run
No pure kennel-keeping. Tosa's need to be near you
Sensitivity and knowledge of dogs
You have to go through a long and intense socialization phase, since Tosa's are "late bloomers".

We also have to inform you about health problems and risks.
Unfortunately, a quite sustainable number of Tosa's suffers
from canine hip dysplasia.
The Japanese have never paid attention to that defect.
Another problem that aplies to all big sized dog breeds is the bloat.
You can take precautions against them suffering and dying from it:
feed several meals a day and let your dog relax for 2 ours after his meal.

On a cosmetic note, ugly, hairless, thick, dark spots mostly on the dog's joints are
calluses caused by lying.
A soft matress or something similar is the precaution you can take here.

The public opinion is a different problem.
It's scary how many prejudices people often have,
when they realize that the dog you walk with is a
so-called "fighting dog".
It helps, if you face them with confidence and a positive attitude
to show them that they are wrong and to correct them in an objective way.
Doing so, a caring attitude and consideration are very important.

If you have not been irritated or put off by what you read and say
"yes, I fell in love with Tosa's, they are the right dogs for me"
then you will get a wonderful dog whose company you will enjoy a lot.

Note: Tosa's are something very special
and cann't be compared with any other dog breed.
They deserve only the best!!!

Breed info.

The Tosa is a big, majestic Japanese matchdog,

They divide them into two classes:

class 2 - witherstide from 62 cm, and weight from 92.4 lbs.
Present day there are Tosa's with weight higher as 154 lbs.
The fights are very diciplinary:
the dogs catch their opponent with the teeth in their detachable scruff
of the neck and try to put their opponent down to the ground.
If there arise a little injure they break off the engagemant.
They count negative marks if the dog on purpose to his opponent
bite or bark, bark and groan for fear, and if the dog will abandon the contest
and oneself more than three steps remote from his opponent.

The best wrestler is called Yokozuna, the wrestler king.
They crowned him with a decorated strawstrap.
This strap is called shime and is a holy symbol.
